Madam Chia introduced the students to one way of varying sentences and that is to start with participial phrase. To simplify this, it means starting a sentence with the "-ing" form of the verb.
If I have two actions or one feeling and one action that happen simultaneously (at the same time),
- I was scared out of my wits.
- I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
I will combine these two sentences like this:
Scared out of my wits, I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.
- I dragged my feet home.
- I thought about the incident that happened earlier.
I will combine these two sentences like this:
Dragging my feet home, I thought about the incident that happened earlier.
