FEAR
- Paralysed with fear, I could not command my legs to run. Finally, when I regained my composure, I dashed to where my mother was.
- I was frightened out of my wits.
- A chill ran down my spine.
- My hair stood on end.
- I was frozen stiff with fear
- I trembled like a leaf.
- I was petrified and my face froze momentously
- I stood rooted to the ground… regained my composure
- Frightening thoughts raced through my mind.
- I was at a loss for words.
- My face turned deathly pale and my skin felt cold and clammy.
- I started to get goose bumps on my skin.
- I almost jumped out of my skin.

Reflection question: What do you think of Joseph Schooling's achievement?
Feeling/s and why you felt that way
I am proud of Joseph Schooling's achievement because it was not an easy feat for him to defeat the greatest Olympian in history. He has trained so hard, putting in so many gruelling hours in the swimming pool. He deserves to enjoy the fruits of his labour.
Give another viewpoint. Try to see the big picture.
Actually, there were many reasons why Joseph Schooling managed to beat Micheal Phelps. Schooling is younger than Phelps and so more energetic. Phelps just became a father and so he might have been a little distracted when he was competing. Not only that, Phelps had earlier won 5 races and he might have swum slower as his energy was used up. Luckily, Schooling is aware of these issues and he is not letting this achievement get to his head. He is not letting his guard down and I think this is a good thing.
Any past event that you could relate to
This made me recall a time when I was too full of myself. As I had aced the spelling test every week, I started to feel very confident of myself. For the last spelling test in term 2, I decided that I should just take 3 days to learn since I thought I was a superb speller. It was a decision that I regretted making. When my teacher read the words out, I could only spell 5 out of the 12 words tested. When I received the results, I failed horribly and I was so embarrassed to get such low marks. After that day, I learnt a lesson and I told myself that I should put in my best effort in anything that I do and I would never be over-confident.
Lesson learnt that you can apply for any future event
Just like Joseph Schooling, I have set goals for myself and I intend to achieve them. With such an inspiring role model, I have decided that I will start working hard from today onwards. Nothing is impossible. My classmates might be better than I am now but with hard work, there will be one day that I can catch up with them.

Ancient Civilisations - Mesopotamia
We learnt about Mesopotamia and the Sumerians who were the first people to migrate to Mesopotamia.
Many children have asked if they can watch the DVD again. Since it is not possible for Madam Chia to upload the DVD contents onto this website, please go to the three links below to learn more about the Sumerians.
