A few noteworthy book reviews have been posted - featuring work done by Anis, Keane, Akmal and Haziq. Check them out in the Book Reviews webpage!
Many children are still mispronouncing these 2 words "marred" and "riveted" that are found in passage 1 of their Listening Comprehension and Oral book. Please listen to the correct pronunciation by clicking on the 2 videos posted below. Oral recordings by Daniel, Si Ern, Jathniel, Haziq and Thomi have been posted.
Please take note that if a student is unable to hand in his or her homework the next day, Madam Chia will issue an offence paper and staple it to the student's handbook. Parents, please check your child's handbook regularly and if you see the offence paper, please sign it. Thank you. The paper looks like this:
39 out of 40 students sat for CWS 2 on Thursday, 10 March.
Highest - 19 / 20 marks (Yay!!!) 1 student scored 19 marks. Lowest - 9 / 20 marks (Try harder!!!) 1 student did not manage to pass. Class average - 14.46 marks Comments: Generally, the children who scored more than 12/ 20 would have done relatively quite well in the grammar section. The grammar questions were not difficult and many question types had already been taught in class. Likewise, in the sentence synthesis section, the questions types were covered. I had gone through the notes in their assessment books and they also brought back home to do. I also went through the correct answers and they completed their corrections. Lastly, many children did not do too well in the comprehension cloze section. For that section, they need to understand the text fully and then employ a slew of strategies to arrive at the correct answers. I will teach the class those strategies once school reopens. Duration of Paper 2 - 1 hour and 50 minutes
During the examination, two booklets, Booket A and Booklet B, will be given out together. When you are doing Practice Paper 1, please time yourself. Oh dear! I have forgotten to return the children their dictation list with phrases to describe a crowded school hall before a performance. Parents, if you are reading this, please allay your child's fear by informing him/ her that Madam Chia will not require him/ her to memorise the phrases. On Thursday, 24 March, I will read the phrases to the students instead. Children, if you are reading this, please help me spread the message. Thank you. I shall put up Rapheal's work here. He was one of the few students who drew exactly how the hall was described.
On Friday, I recorded Jaden, Mithun, Zinnia and Fazira. I had told the children that I would like them to take charge of their own learning. Instead of Madam Chia telling the children when to meet me for the recording, I had told everyone in 5B to get into groups of four and then approach me to tell me when I can record them. I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the four children mentioned above decided among themselves who should meet me at 10.45 am and 11 am. I will pass the children a hard copy of my evaluation on Monday when school reopens for term 2. Parents, please remember to sign at the top left hand corner of the paper. See the image below. Thanks! =)
