The students have taken their compo files back home for revision. Please help to ensure that your child revises well for next Tuesday's SA1 EL composition and situational writing examination. Parents, if you are able to, could you please help to test your child is able to spell at least 3 good phrases for commonly described emotions/ feelings like anger, happiness, sadness, shock and fright. You can refer to the compo file for those phrases. You can also give your child a few scenarios that you come across and ask your child what sort of phrases can he or she think of immediately. E.g. An elderly lady falling down - When the elderly lady lost her balance and fell, I stood rooted to the spot. My face turned pale as the elderly lady started to moan and groan in pain. When I regained my composure, I dashed over to help the lady up and led her slowly to the bench to rest. I also taught the children that it is meaningless if they just plonk good phrases down without describing the action or giving the reason that led to that emotion.
Compare the above example to this which shows no real understanding of how good phrases can be used.
When the elderly lady lost her balance and fell, I stood rooted to the spot. My face turned pale. I had butterflies in my stomach. My hands turned clammy. Fear gripped me. I regained my composure.
Which is better? I leave you to decide. =)
SA1 Listening Comprehension Exam is on next Thursday, 28 April. On Wednesday, 27 April, please ensure that your child sleeps early as he/ she will need to focus and pay attention during the listening exam which will be around 30 minutes long.
